Vice President Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang reportedly ill


Ghana's Vice President, Her Excellency Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, experienced a sudden illness on Friday, March 28, 2025, and was promptly admitted to the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) for treatment. Following initial care, medical experts have recommended that she seek further medical attention abroad to ensure a full recovery.  

A statement issued by the Presidential Spokesman and Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Mr. Felix Kwakye Ofosu, confirmed the Vice President's health status and the decision for her to pursue additional treatment overseas. The statement concluded with well-wishes for her speedy recovery. 

Vice President Opoku-Agyemang, who made history in December 2024 as Ghana's first female vice president, has had a distinguished career spanning academia and public service. Prior to her vice presidency, she served as Minister of Education and was a professor of literature. 

The news of her illness has prompted an outpouring of support from citizens and political figures alike, all expressing hope for her swift return to health.
