Lightning strikes Physics Teacher to death

In a devastating incident, Mr. William Amoako, a dedicated Physics teacher at Anloga Senior High School (Anseco), lost his life after being struck by lightning during a heavy downpour on Wednesday, March 26, 2025.

The tragedy unfolded around 5:45 PM in the Atsugbor Electoral Area of the Anloga District, Volta Region. Mr. Amoako was reportedly on his way home when the lightning struck, leaving him motionless in the middle of the road amidst the storm. Assembly Member James Fiati recounted receiving distressing calls about a man lying unresponsive in the rain, clad in a raincoat.

Preliminary examinations revealed bruises on Mr. Amoako's head and torn clothing, consistent with injuries from a lightning strike. The Anloga Police have transported his body to the Keta Municipal Hospital morgue for further examination and autopsy.

The late Mr. Amoako, in his early 30s, hailed from Kwadaso in the Ashanti Region. His untimely death has left the Anloga community, including students and faculty of Anseco, in profound shock and mourning. Residents are urged to exercise caution during the rainy season, which often brings thunderstorms and associated risks.

This tragic event underscores the unpredictable nature of lightning strikes and the importance of seeking shelter during severe weather conditions.
