Breaking news: Unidentified Youth Set Fire to Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga's Residence

Unidentified youth set fire to Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga's residence in Bawku, Ghana, amid escalating tensions in the town's long-running chieftaincy dispute.

The attack occurred on Thursday, April 10, 2025, when the youth attacked and partially set fire to Ayariga's home. The incident happened after deadly clashes on Wednesday, which left one person dead and several others injured.

The violence was sparked by a confrontation between rival ethnic groups and police, resulting in the destruction of several police facilities, including the residence of the Bawku Divisional Police Commander.

The Ghanaian authorities have responded by deploying military personnel to key areas in Bawku to deter further violence and protect critical infrastructure. The government has yet to issue a formal statement, but local authorities are working with traditional leaders and security agencies to restore order.

The situation remains tense, with fears of reprisal attacks looming large. The Mamprugu Youth Association has condemned the violence, calling for an end to the clashes. Ayariga had previously condemned a gunshot incident and distanced himself from law enforcement actions, stating that no decision taken by law enforcers should be attributed to him.
